Information about the councillors
THE PARISH COUNCIL
The Parish Council exists to represent the views of the residents of the Parish and to work with other authorities, chiefly Gloucestershire County Council and the Forest of Dean District Council, to maintain and improve services to local people.
The Council has a membership of seven and was most recently elected in May 2023. There is currently one vacancy.
The Council meets on the fourth Monday of alternate months (January, March, May, July, September and November) in the Village Hall. Meetings are open to any resident of the Parish, and those attending are invited to give their views. We also hold an Annual Parish Meeting, usually in April, where we invite other local organisations to report on their activities and we have a wider discussion on the Parish’s needs.
As a result of the conversations at these meetings, and from other discussions, we have completed a number of pieces of work in the last few years:
- completed a Parish Emergency Plan
- produced a ‘cheap & cheerful’ welcome pack so that new residents are introduced to the Parish and its main organizations
- installed and monitored a moveable Vehicle Activated Sign in a number of locations on the B4215. The Sign was funded by a grant from the Police Commissioners Fund.
- built a bus stop for southbound travellers at Trioscape
- with a grant from Tibberton and District Horticultural Society, planted additional trees at the corner of Buttermilk Lane and north of the bus shelter there
- continued to work on planning and enforcement issues, of which there are a number to ensure that the countryside is protected and unlawful buildings removed
- pressed for improved broadband speed in the parish through the ‘Fastershire’ project, which has now been completed so that residents have access to high-speed broadband
- provided grants and to support the work of the Highleadon Green Association and helped the Association to address the illegal encampments that have in the past taken place on the Green
Currently, the Council’s highest priority is to improve safe pedestrian access to the bus stops at Trioscape and at Whitehall Lane, working alongside the County Council’s improvements to the stops themselves.
